Pennhaven is
the base for our Exeter services and is itself an eight-bedded residential care home for people recovering or needing support from the symptoms of mental health illness. The home is registered for ages between 18 and 65.
Pennhaven is managed by the Parkview Society, Devon & Cornwall Housing Association own the
building.
The home is a three storey building, is situated in central Exeter, within easy walking distance of the city centre and local amenities: sport centres, libraries, colleges, night classes, clubs, bingo, snooker halls, football grounds, running tracks, mental health services and day centres, swimming pools, cinemas, theatres, etc. We actively support individuals to access as many places as they feel they want.
The home is staffed 24 hours a day by experienced staff who undergo continuous training. A key working system is in place at Pennhaven. A fundamental staff role is to support clients with care plan goals and individual needs.

PENNHAVEN ETHOS
Staff at the home practise a user and needs led support role with emphasis on enabling and empowering service users. We view Pennhaven as a positive bridge from hospital care into independent living. It is our intention to provide a safe, warm and friendly environment, with a holistic approach to other good existing service provisions.
Quality of life, it is expected will be improved through assessment of need, development of resources and user led care plans which promote independence.

Choice, at Pennhaven, is encouraged through user involvement and person centred care within a safe environment. Confidentiality is paramount and valued by service users and staff.
Service users are supported in communicating and engaging with organisations and people within the community to promote opportunities to function, participate and develop in society. Promoting opportunities for service users to use their own strengths and expertise to enable them to meet responsibilities, secure rights and achieve change is a positive feature of life at Pennhaven.
Service users work in partnership with staff and other services to assess and review circumstances and plan responses to need and risk.
Through working together with the wider community, we offer a valuable and comfortable environment for people recovering or needing support from the symptoms of mental health illness.
PENNHAVEN AIMS
To provide high quality, 24-hour residential care for people with mental health issues, supporting individuals to live as independent a life as possible with, where appropriate, rehabilitation into the community by encouraging independence and a sense of personal responsibility within communal setting.
Ensure residents rights to privacy, autonomy, independence, dignity and fulfilment, enabling individuals to live a satisfactory quality of life. Provide a relaxed and non-institutional environment, where people are treated as individuals and encouraged to make informed choices about themselves, their future and their surroundings.
Maintain effective communication networks with special needs support services, so that consistent care approaches are used at all times. Provide a space where residents feel accepted and comfortable. To respect the needs of individuals. To support and encourage individuals with daily living tasks.
To encourage individuals to think about their particular situations and to offer the opportunity and support for change to take place. To focus on individuals needs and to offer advice and support as a means of meeting those needs in conjunction with the care plan.
To meet the requirements of the organisation; registration; accreditation; Devon & Cornwall Housing and health and safety issues.
DAILY LIVING
FOOD
A choice of food is always available. We aim to provide special dietary requirements to any on requiring them. Residents and staff take turns to choose and prepare an evening meal; support is at hand if needed. Residents prepare breakfast and lunch as and when required. Drinks are available whenever wanted.
CLEANING
It is expected that all residents will keep their own rooms clean and safe. Support is available if needed. All share the cleaning of the house, areas shared on a rota basis and a small incentive can be earned.
SUPPORT
It is our aim to offer support when needed. We aim to treat everyone as individually as possible. Support is available for one-one time as well as group time, supporting residents returning to the community, daily living, having fun, social
support, support with medication and various other ways as required.
CARE PLANNING
We are available to provide support with care planning and review meetings.
VISITORS
We encourage residents to feel they are able to ask friends and family to visit.
SMOKING & DRINKING
Smoking in bedrooms is subject to risk assessment and no smoking is allowed in
communal areas.
In respect of alcoholic drinks, residents are expected to behave in a socially responsible manner.
TIME OUT
Planned time is arranged to take residents out on individual or group outing, transport is available for these trips.
OTHER SERVICES
We are always happy to consider offering other services, such as, individually tailored outreach support for those not in Parkview accommodation.
