THE PARKVIEW SOCIETY

CURRENT ACCOMMODATION/SERVICE VACANCIES

We are currently seeking further referrals to the service below.

Parkview Mental Health Floating Support Service

This service is for individuals with mental health issues and aims to develop and sustain an individual’s capacity to live independently within  community based accommodation.

Support from staff is focused around promoting the service user’s ability to live independently in their own or a selection of Parkview Society accommodation. The service intends to provide support in the medium term to long term, with the aim that service users will hopefully be able to then move on to greater independence. The Society has a range of housing accommodation in Exeter, Exmouth, Honiton, Ottery St Mary and Newton Abbot.

Recognising the vulnerability of our service users, visiting support is provided to assist and give service users the confidence to sustain their own home. Support is provided to assist the service user’s ability to cope with the demands and requirements of living independently. In addition to visiting support, service user’s can contact staff at anytime that they have support needs in relation to their ability to cope with the demands and requirements of living independently. In order to provide a response at particular times of difficulty, a 24 hour telephone on-call service is available to service users.

Support to individual service users will be guided by their particular needs in relation their abilities to live independently. More generally, the support offered may include:

help with managing money and accessing welfare benefits in order to sustain financial stability.
monitoring of well-being, emotional support and confidence building.
help to maintain safety and security in the home
help to make and keep appointments with other professionals such as CPN’s, Care Managers, GP’s etc.
help to gain access to other services they may need, including training, further education, employment, health and social activities
assisting service users in managing household tasks, planning meals, shopping etc.
assisting in organising repairs and maintenance issues related to the upkeep of the accommodation.

Dependant on each service user’s situation, support will include ensuring that the required links between Community Mental Health Teams, GP’s, relatives etc. are maintained.

The support available from staff does not include any physical assistance with toileting bathing etc. While staff of course provide emotional support and attempt to help build service user’s confidence, specialist counselling services are not provided, however, dependent on need, service users will be assisted in accessing relevant professional services.
